Happy Earth Day. Kill a turbine. Plant a tree.

Today on Wind Wise Radio: Saving Massachusetts from IWT — Louise Barteau, Ann DeNardis, Viriginia Irvine, Andrew Wells — Sun. April 22 7pm ET We will be talking with leaders in the efforts to save Massachusetts from the onslaught of the Patrick administration and the wind developers who are attempting to put their political ambitions and their greed ahead of the interests of the citizens of Massachusetts Louise Barteau is an environmental artist living and working in Fairhaven, MA. Her studio is located approximately 1200′ from Fairhaven’s two 400′ Industrial Wind Turbines which were installed this winter and are about to be turned on this month.   Turbine trouble in Lee.  Wind turbines on October Mountain? A brand new group, Wise Choices for Lee (WCFL),  has sprung up in Lee, Massachusetts.  They are seeking rational, well-reasoned policies and projects for their town.  The current governing of the town seems fraught with secrecy and behind the scenes political maneuvering by an old boy’s (literally) network.  This is combined with a byzantine system of “representative” government which cuts out 99% of the citizens as only sixty some odd people actually get to vote at town meetings. The flow of information in the town is reportedly a trickle and the town manager, Bob Nason, seems to think he is Joseph Stalin with Lee as his own personal Russia. When WCFL asked to book the town’s meeting space –to bring two informational events … Read entire article »

Direct Impact: Talking with victims of IWT. Neil Anderson, Barb Ashbee, Richard Braithwaite, and Gerry Meyer — Sun. April 8th, 7pm ET

Attend our Weekly Meeting at Jonas and Betsy’s Friday, 4/13, 9am. All are welcome. Come celebrate our success celebration of PLM on Sunday, April 15th, from 4 to 6PM at the home of Betsy and Jonas Dovydenas. Please RSVP by Friday afternoon.     WWR will be talked with the victims of industrial wind from different areas.     Barbara Ashbee was forced out of her Amaranth, Ontario home by the siting of industrial turbines too close.  Barbara could easily count 15 turbines from her yard. Her experiences with the local and provincial government is scary and disturbing. “The Ontario government did not help, in fact they mislead us on the number of complaints they had received and were claiming all was running in compliance when it wasn’t. The Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) released a literature review in May … Read entire article »

A question of values.

Wind turbines on our mountains carry too high a price Reposted from VTDigger. Editor’s note: This op-ed is by Charles W. Johnson, the retired Vermont State Naturalist and author of “The Nature of Vermont” and other books on natural history. Huge wind turbines vs. the mountains. Environmentalists vs. environmentalists. An unfamiliar, uncomfortable fight is on. I have been involved in conservation in Vermont for over 40 years, and this is the first time in my memory that two great environmental issues have collided head-on: growing concern about nonrenewable resources and climate change against growing concern about losing what we’ve worked so hard to save in Vermont’s landscape. Why is this happening? I think because we have run into a serious ethical issue we have not taken time to consider adequately: How far should our … Read entire article »
